Have you ever looked at the giant buildings, skyscrapers of all glass exterior, on the Las Vegas Strip, or really in any big city in the country or the world, and wonder how they don’t just cook the people inside, outside, or anywhere in the vicinity when the sun hits them just right. Obviously they don’t, at least most of the time, or no one would ever visit Las Vegas or work or live downtown in any major city, anywhere. The short answer is, people aren’t injured by Las Vegas casinos from magnifying glass-like reflections because of a film that usually covers the windows and prevents just such an eventuality. Well, a recent case in London where a the reflection off the front of a building melted a car, a really nice car, too – a Jaguar XJ – reminded us of a case a few years back where people were injured at a hotel and casino in Las Vegas by the Vdara reflecting sunlight so strongly it burned them as they sat by the pool. If you’re injured in a casino in Southern Nevada, Benson & Bingham Attorneys at Law can help. Call us today for a free consultation.

The case of injuries at the Vdara hotel and casino in Clark County was due to an architectural flaw of the building. The building was curved, giving it an extra focal point for the sun’s rays, and acting even more like a magnifying glass than your typical building exterior. Hotel employees nicknamed it the “death ray” for the power and heat of the focused sun hitting the pool area. Like so many cases of people injured on vacation in Las Vegas, the hotel and casino knew of the danger of this “death ray” well beforehand, as the MGM Mirage, which owns the Vdara, got an extra special film covering for the windows because they saw this coming. Even with the film, though, people still suffered burn injuries in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Attorneys Benson & Bingham represent people injured at a hotel and casino in Las Vegas, whether through the so called “death ray” or through normal means, like slip and falls, negligent carpentry, falling building materials, or injuries at show performances. A lot of attorneys are afraid to take on the big casinos to get you the compensation you deserve we are not. In fact, Benson & Bingham have successfully sued nearly every major casino on behalf of our clients, and we aren’t afraid to do it again. Come in for a free consultation if you’ve been injured in Las Vegas – you may not know if you have a case, but we can help.
